For decades, well-established concepts have formed the backbone of traffic modeling. As the field evolves, there is a realization that connecting and integrating analytical and microsimulation techniques will help traffic modelers greatly.

Dr Rahmi Akçelik recently made a presentation at the 2024 TRB Joint Traffic Analysis and Modeling Workshop, organized by the TRB Committee on Highway Capacity & Quality of Service and the TRB Standing Committee on Traffic Simulation.

This approach, aimed at enhancing model transparency, revisits concepts first proposed a quarter-century ago but not widely implemented. The presentation highlights key model elements crucial for ensuring compatibility between these two modeling approaches in traffic engineering.
