Who should attend?

This online training program is offered for traffic and transport professionals and students with any level of experience. It will be of benefit to people interested in the essential concepts of traffic modelling and principles of traffic analysis.

This training will focus on traffic variables, concepts and principles that need to be understood for effective intersection and network modelling from a practical perspective using an analytical software tool such as SIDRA INTERSECTION. These traffic variables are of importance in preparing input, interpreting output, and calibrating the model for best representation of real-life traffic conditions.

The knowledge gained at this online training will be useful generally in the use of all traffic and transport modelling software tools.

This program has been prepared by Dr Rahmi Akçelik, a leading scientist and software developer with 50 years of practical, research and training experience in the area of road traffic operations, traffic engineering, management and control.

SIDRA Presenters

The following presenters will conduct this training program:

Mark Besley is a scientist and software specialist who has worked in the traffic management area since 1980s. He has been making a significant contribution to the development of the SIDRA INTERSECTION software in collaboration with Dr Rahmi Akçelik during the last 30+ years. He has trained several thousand professionals in over 300 workshops, courses and seminars.

Mark has been involved in many aspects of research on traffic operations including traffic network models, incident detection, fuel consumption estimation, traffic data collection and analysis.

Dr Ian Espada is a Senior Traffic Modeller / Analyst at SIDRA SOLUTIONS. He has more than 20 years of work experience in the role of researcher, transport/traffic planner, transport survey specialist, transport demand modeller, and transport economist. He had an 11-year career at the Australian Road Research Board where he was the team leader of the Network Operations Team under the Future Transport Systems Working Group. Ian worked for 7 years as a transport planner / modeller for ALMEC Corporation, Japan. He was also a sessional lecturer on transport demand modelling at Swinburne University for 10 years.

Ian has a Ph.D. degree in transportation engineering and planning from the University of Tokyo and an M.Eng. degree in transportation planning and traffic engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand. Ian was the Australian representative to the World Road Association technical committee on road network operations from 2016 to 2019.

We use Eventbrite ticketing system for registration. You will receive various notifcations and reminders regarding the event from Eventbrite.

Units and displays in presentations and SIDRA project files will be configured according to region. These are based on:

  • SIDRA Standard Left software setup using Left-Hand traffic rule and Metric units.
  • SIDRA Standard Right software setup using Right-Hand traffic rule and Metric units.
  • SIDRA US HCM software setup using Right-hand traffic rule and US Customary units.

We will ask you to complete and submit a Training Evaluation Survey so we can get feedback on your experience. The information and feedback you provide is valuable for us in designing and improving our programs.

After completion of training, we will send you a Certificate of Completion.

The training will be in English.
